HDR

High Dynamic Range — wider luminance and color gamut.

HDR is an umbrella term for video standards that carry a wider luminance range (typically 1000-4000 nits peak) and wider color (Rec.2020 / DCI-P3) than the SDR baseline. Multiple competing formats exist: HDR10 (the open static-metadata floor), HDR10+ (Samsung-led dynamic), Dolby Vision (Dolby-licensed dynamic, 12-bit), and HLG (broadcast-friendly). All modern TVs and most laptops/phones support HDR10; Dolby Vision and HDR10+ require licensing and content support.
