Editorial policy

How Specdex works.

Independent, benchmark-first, and transparent by design. Here's exactly how our reviews and rankings are produced.

Independence

We don't take paid placements, sponsored reviews, or pay-to-play coverage. When a brand sends a review unit, we accept it under no-conditions terms — they don't get pre-publication review, right of reply before posting, or any editorial influence. We decline any offer with strings attached, and flag any item received for free inside the review itself.

Scoring rubric

Every category has a published rubric with explicit weights (e.g. phones: CPU 15%, GPU 12%, camera 20%, battery 15%, display 15%, design 13%, other 10%). Sub-scores combine real-world tests with normalized synthetic benchmarks. Weights are reviewed quarterly and publicly versioned on the methodology page.

Corrections

We publish a correction on the review itself, with a dated changelog at the bottom, whenever we update a score by more than ±1 point or change a factual claim. Email [email protected] to flag a correction.

Retesting

When a device ships a major firmware update, we re-run affected benchmarks within 14 days and publish the delta. Scores re-calibrate automatically when sub-scores change.

Affiliate links

Where we include retail links, some are affiliated — we earn a small commission if you buy after clicking. Commissions never affect scores, rankings, or inclusion. Full disclosure is in the terms.

Conflicts of interest

Specdex is independently operated. Contributors disclose any personal financial interest in a brand or product they cover. If we review a product from a company we have any business relationship with, we flag it in the review prominently.

Anti-spam & manipulation

We don't scrape, re-publish, or paraphrase third-party reviews without citation. We don't use generative AI to write review copy (generative AI hallucinates specs). Our site structure is heavily linked internally because our catalog is genuinely large — not as a link-farm technique.

Accessibility

Specdex follows WCAG 2.2 AA. If something's inaccessible, email [email protected] and we'll fix it.
