Thread

Low-power mesh radio for smart-home devices.

Thread is a low-power mesh networking protocol over IPv6, typically running on 802.15.4 radios in the 2.4 GHz band. Unlike Wi-Fi (high power) or Zigbee (proprietary stack), Thread devices form a self-healing mesh that doesn't need a coordinator. Border routers (Apple TV, HomePod mini, Echo Hub, Google Nest Hub) bridge Thread to IP. The transport beneath most Matter accessories.
