NVMe
Non-Volatile Memory Express — protocol for PCIe SSDs.
NVMe is the modern protocol for solid-state storage over PCIe, replacing AHCI/SATA for any drive faster than ~600 MB/s. NVMe Gen 5 drives can hit 14 GB/s sequential read; the practical ceiling for most workloads (game loads, app launches, photo edits) is reached by Gen 4 — Gen 5 mostly helps content-creation pipelines and AI dataset loads.
