Neural Processing Unit — on-device AI accelerator.
A Neural Processing Unit is dedicated silicon for matrix operations used by neural networks. Apple's "Neural Engine" (A19 Pro: 38 TOPS), Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU, and Google's Tensor TPU all serve the same purpose: run AI models locally without burning the battery via CPU/GPU. Speech recognition, photo segmentation, and on-device LLMs all run on the NPU.
