IPS
In-Plane Switching LCD — wide viewing angles, true colors.
IPS is the LCD panel technology that aligns liquid-crystal molecules in-plane (parallel to the panel) rather than vertically. Result: wide viewing angles (~178°) and accurate color reproduction. Tradeoffs vs OLED: backlight bleed in dark scenes, slower pixel response than OLED/TN, and weaker contrast (~1000:1 native). Modern IPS variants — Nano IPS, Fast IPS, IPS Black — chip away at these limits while keeping the wide-angle advantage.
