DDR5

5th-gen DDR system memory — 4800-8400 MT/s.

DDR5 is the desktop/laptop main-memory standard from 2021 onward, replacing DDR4. Native speeds run 4800-6400 MT/s; XMP/EXPO profiles push to 8400+ on flagship kits. DDR5 has on-module voltage regulation (PMICs on the DIMM) and per-bank refresh, both of which improve bandwidth scaling but raise platform cost. The DDR4 → DDR5 transition is mostly complete on desktop in 2026.
